The Democracy Baby

Since asking you, the blogosphere, proved to be such a help in determining the name of our baby we enlist you again. We were not planning on painting the babies room. We have a thing against our (read: my) somewhat shoddy paint skills and our (read: my) tendency to leave little spots and streaks where there shouldn't be any. But when we moved the bookcase out of what is now the play room into what will be the baby's room, we found the wall behind it was a bit beat up. So since we would have to repaint anyway, why not pick a fun color.

Saturday we headed off to the paint store, kids in tow to look at some samples. This is Jonah's selection:
Cup of Joe with India Ink and a highlight of either One Enchanted Eve, or Shadow Dance. He wasn't sure which. While I think it is a rather sophisticated color palette, I don't think it is quite right for a little girls room.

Here is more where we are headed.
The fabric in the middle is what will be the bedding (bumpers will be the brown polka dot and the skirt will be the floral) lovingly being made by Grandma P. And we are trying to choose between green (Pear Green to be specific) and yellow (Mellow Yellow if we are splitting hairs - It was either that or a color called American Cheese...) What do you, blogosphere, think?

Here is the shot with the rug (still rolled up) and the lampshade.

The rug is sort of a braided pink and green. While you are weighing in, let me know what you think I should do with the lamp. The lamp itself is white, (it was in the boy's nursery) but the lampshade is new and more girly. But the white lamp with the somewhat off white shade is not jiving for me. Paint it brown? Or pink? Or leave it white? Or what?

So you can make a most informed decision, the furniture in the room is all white; white crib and white dresser (lovingly made by Grandpa B.) and an as of yet unpurchased but probably ugly, yet functional, glider.

So, green or yellow? Or a different color entirely?

I had a similar green in the twins' room and LOVED it. SO I vote green.

I'm a little hesitant to comment, because last time I did I think I took the "tell me what you truly think" thing a little too far (sorry Lindsey.) But when we were planning our nursery we were looking at similar colors. I think Corn Husk green was at the top of our list. Then I made what I thought was a bold move, and chose "Kate Spade Green" (my own dubbing, not an actual color.) I've been really happy with it, and feel like I could make it into a boys room, office, etc if I needed to. There are some pictures on my blog :http://blog.ryanandalissa.com/search/label/Nursery
I have a lampshade that looks similar to yours, and I put it on a brown lamp. But I also have white and antique white furniture (which I thought would drive me crazy) in my room and you don't really notice.

Good luck. The joys of a girl begin.

From what I can tell by enlarging the photos, I think the yellow looks better. Also, I like the lamp shade better with the yellow, rather than mixing the greens. I do like the green, I just like the fabric better with the yellow. I think I would paint the lamp base a dark brown. There is my two cents for you!

I like the yellow, and I would paint the lamp brown. The Yellow seems to allow the nice fabrics you chose to stand out, where the green seems to compete. My 2c.

If I correctly recall the latest fashion forecast you gave me, you mentioned that "green & brown" are soon-to-be the NEW "pink & brown". I think that prediction was right...just sayin'.

I'm voting green...great with the browns in your fabric! I think the lamp is beautiful in white & the shade is really cool. You could easily change it out anytime too.

You two have already given more thought to your sweet daughter's nursery than I have to my 15-month-old's room. Josh, it's pretty fabulous that you are just as involved in this process as Amy is! You guys are cool.

I like the yellow. Izzy's room is yellow and I love it. Besides, the yellow walls will pull out the yellow in the print of the fabric. And,...I would paint the lamp too.

I L-O-V-E the fabric you chose! And while I do like the green color, I think I prefer the yellow just a pinch more. And I say be bold and paint the lamp pink =)! I can't wait to move and paint again!

I, too, am going to remind you of your previous prediction of "brown and green" and ask you to remain loyal to that. I just love green, though. I think the lamp is fabulous and I love mixing different hues of the same color. I think it's artsy and whimsical! I love that floral fabric.

Good luck painting. We have smudges and streaks on the ceiling, carpet. . . "whatever!"
