Hi, I'm Susanne Wong

We did it. We bought a house. After the successful selling of our house last week, we decided to head out to rainy Portland to find a place to live. We were greatly inspired by the fact that we need to be out of our house by the 21st and want to limit the amount of time we live in our in-laws basement. Our in-laws are lovely to offer to let us live in their basement (actually I don't think they offered - I think we just told them we were moving in,) but we hate to wear out our welcome. We flew in on Wednesday and went house hunting like an episode of House Hunters on crack, except without Susanne Wong reminding us of which houses we liked and which we didn't. By the end of the day we were exhausted, and all the houses were starting to blur together. Our conversations sounded something like this:
"Which house did we like?"
"The one with the alcove."
"Did it have a kitchen?"
"Yes."
"But not the one with the bassett hound and the owner's underw
ear laying on the floor, right?"
"Right."

We really had narrowed it down to three. (Just like on House Hunters!) Which one would we choose:

A) Seventies home on a big lot.

B) Newer development with a little yard

C) Charming neighborhood, charming home, perfect!

Which one did we choose?...(cue House Hunters' theme song)...

The charming home in the charming neighborhood!

We are thrilled. It is the right size, for the right price, in a really cute neighborhood that seems to have a lot of kids. It is in a good ward and in a great stake. (Chanel's stake, to be exact.) There is a Trader Joe's 5 minutes away, a Costco 10 minutes away, and 2 Target's, each within 3 miles. What more do you need?!?!
We made an offer, and it was accepted. So we are moving...gulp. We are terrified, but happy and relieved to know that we have somewhere to live that we are excited about. There is a 4th bedroom, so come and visit! No, not you, creepy random blog reader. I am referring to our lovely friends and family.
I will post more pics and info soon. I am getting on a plane.

Josh & Fam,

Congratulations! Your home is adorable and so is your family. We are actually planning a Craig/Portland Trip for 2009. And since we'll probably have 18 children by then, we will need to split up between the Binghams and the Taylors. We're just sayin'.

We're so excited for you guys! Best of luck. And if you need help moving in, you should totally call Eric, because he loves to help people move.

Way to go, you guys! It looks awesome! And I am so glad you have the Target nearby--it makes me nervous when people don't.

Nice Job you guys!!! We couldn't be happier...well, I guess you could be moving to NYC, that would make us happier, but we're pretty happy still, although we don't get out OR that often, but that's great, really...but you didn't put a lot of thought into us, but it's your house so go and live in it and love it and don't give us a second thought, we'll be fine really...shit.

Fantastic. Although I am a little sad you didn't choose the 70s home like we did. (Not really. Who needs all those renovations!?)

Thanks for note on my birthday, and we can't wait for you to be our neighbors

Mark (Mr. Taylor) and yes you are on those terms
See you all soon

I'm with Brett--the 70s home is like the one we have and the renovations are never finished.

So, when you offer up that 4th bedroom, that's for me and the 5 kids to come and visit, right? Right?

josh, this is your cousin candace. i lurk here often, but don't post. i'm jealous of your perfect househunters experience. we are beginning the search today...unfortunately, still in new jersey. our choices are more likely to be:

1. the ugly, overpriced house with no updates
2. the cute overpriced house with only one bathroom and no garage
and
3. the ugly but it will have to do house that actually is in our price range.

*sigh* all of those houses look like a dream to me, congrats!

Thanks for all of the well wishes! Lisa and Brett - we would have chose the 70s house, too, but we didn't know if there were any kids in the neighborhood. We love the 70s.

Come one and all and visit. Craigs - we are only 10 min from Chanel, so splitting the kids is a real possibility. Lisa - here is how it will work - your girls sleep in our boys bedroom, all 5 boys sleep on the floor in the playroom (and probably fart a lot,) Amy and I sleep in the guest room/office and you and you, Chris and Margo sleep in the spacious master bedroom. Then we take a road trip to the tilamook cheese factory for free cheese and ice cream!

Candace - good luck!
