Josh's Book Corner: February Edition

It is month two of my monthly reporting on the books I am reading. See January's installment here.
It's been a slow month for reading. Only two books to report on. I am about halfway through two books, so I am hoping for better numbers to report in March. If you want to be able to see at ANY MOMENT what I am reading and what I am planning on reading, follow me on Goodreads.

The Lost ConspiracyThe Lost Conspiracy by Frances Hardinge
3.5 out of 5 stars. I am so confused about how to categorize this novel. It is technically a fantasy novel, but the fantasy elements, while part of the main overarching story, aren't that much a part of page by page events. And I think it is technically a YA book even though it is a complex, thought provoking story. It is a pretty unexpected anthropological study of a down trodden caste of people who are framed for a conspiracy that brings about an attempted genocide. The heroine, Hathin, in charming and plucky and brave and great. I would recommend it.
An Object of Beauty: A NovelAn Object of Beauty: A Novel by Steve Martin
4 out of 5 stars. I haven't read Steve Martin before, but found it to be a pleasurable experience. It is the story of Lacey, a woman who is making her way in the art world as a dealer. First of all, the book itself is an object of beauty. Great paper, beautiful prints of actual art inside. And I found the store very interesting. I know a little bit about art, but not much about dealers and galleries and trade, etc. It was fascinating. Good read.

And that's it. Are you disappointed? 6 out of my goal of 40 books for the year read so far. I will try and have more to report at the end of March. What are you all reading? Anything I should add to my list?

I totally read a book before you did. Go me. Also, you should read all by Steve Martin. The pleasure of my company is my favorite.

A while back you asked what you could use instead of the standard "5 stars" thing. What about "5 Diet Cokes"? Cheesy, yes. Honorable, absolutely.

I look forward to more of your reviews!
