A bird, two boxes and a cup

Amy and I have a problem in our new home. The walls are big and expansive and beige. They were newly painted when we moved in and were professionally done, so there are no bubbles, or drips or painting outside the line. As much as we love a colorful house, we just don't want to repaint them unless they are professionally done. I would be willing to do the work, but then Amy would be driven mad by all of the mistakes, of which there would be many. So for now we are leaving them beige.

So we needed art. Art is expensive!! We also needed big art. Big art is really expensive!! I know on all the design shows they just paint their own original art, but we are not very creative. So we decided to do something we don't ever do. Get crafty.

Amy had seen a collage in West Elm of interesting framed images all grouped together. We liked it, but again...expensive! So we went to Ikea, bought some frames and some fabric, went to Michael's for some colored paper, did some photocopying, nailing and stapling and this is what we came up with:
We were pretty pleased and felt like it would be easy to change in the future if we needed to. And the whole thing cost about $50.

First I was going to one of those awesome blogs that posts step by step pictures, but I got bored of taking all of those photos after 2. So here is what I've got.
Here is Amy cutting out the bird silhouette. She is a whiz with the craft knife. (Purchased at Michael's for just this event!)
Here is me nailing Ikea fabric to Ikea wood frames. (I realize I am not really in the picture. Amy was still cutting. But see the hammer? And nails? I was doing that.) PS. Don't you love that fabric?

When Noel woke up this morning and saw it he started laughing like it was the funniest thing he had ever seen and said "There is a bird on our wall! A bird, two boxes and a cup!" Critics!

Many other chores were ignored on this Saturday, but we fell much better about the room now. Here it is in context:
Eat your heart out Paige Davis!!!

Also, don't get used to me posting every day. I can't promise it will continue.
